In collaboration with philosopher Eli Dorsman and filmmakers VidAmir
I try to 'think not from the world, but from the bareness of the face that meets me'
'in the face of the Other I see all others, including myself'
after philosopher Emmanuel Levinas
In Dat Mij Ontmoet, sound, faces and sea foam come together in a shared expression of vulnerability, impermanence and elusiveness, to make an appeal to the visitor. Dat Mij Ontmoet is a study of that appeal, inspired by philosopher Levinas.
Levinas' work evoked an image for me of a naked, isolated face in a dark environment that slowly changes expression. I wanted to confront myself and others with that Other in all its recognisable facial features and encourage them to ask questions.
To explore the different layers and relationships between philosophy, image and music, I asked philosopher Eli Dorsman and filmmaker Vidamir to collaborate with me.
