November Music asked me if I wanted to compose a one minute piece for Porcelain Piano, to be displayed at the hallway of the Verkadefabriek during November Music 2025. People passing by could start the piece of music by pressing a red button. Before writing the piece, I visited the studio of Jelle in Eindhoven, where I could play on the instrument and I could record its sounds.

The porcelain piano by Jelle Mastenbroek is a composition of two living-room ‘icons’; the china cabinet and the piano. Two classical independent objects merged together in an unexpected marriage. The instrument has 48 porcelain plates, tuned and connected to the keys, so that musical arrangements can be played.
